- Justice Krishna Iyer consented to have a dinner with LTTE Leader Pirapaharan

Dr. Krishna Iyer, Former Supreme Court Judge, IndiaFormer Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India, Dr. Krishna Iyer is well know in India and Internationally for his upright stand on justice related issues. He is one among a few champions of the Human Rights.

In 1996, Asian Human Right Commission, Hong Kong had a conference near Colombo, Sri Lanka. Dr. Krishna Iyer was one of the participants. Knowing about the visit of Dr. Krishna Iyer to the meeting, LTTE Superimo and Leader of LTTE Thiru. Pirapaharan invited to have a dinner with him. Dr.Krishna Iyer happily consented to this request and wanted to take part in the dinner. But coming to know about this arrangement, the then External Affair Minister of Sri Lanka prevented Dr. Iyer to attend the programme.

Also Dr. Krishna Iyer said that a bio-grapy of Thiru Pirapaharan is going to be released soon by a publisher and he will get a copy very soon. The publisher phoned personally to him recently.

He also wished that Srilanka should solve the ethnic problem amicably.

These incidents were narrated by Dr. Iyer himself during a recent meeting with Human Rights Activists at his resident in Eranakulam, Kerala.

Justice Krishna Iyer's opposition to capital punishment, which he regards as official murder, springs essentially from his deep reverence for the dignity and worth of every individual however downtrodden and despised. He has not minced words to express his abhorrence of society snuffing out the life of one of its members on the ground of retributive justice.
