Manitham, a NGO, working to

education to children of poor Tamil fishermen at Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.
Country boat Fishing community in Tamil Nadu are very poor and their life
condition is below poverty line. Almost all family members in fishing hamlets
have to work for their survival for their every day life. So, fishermen have no
time to look after their children. Also fishing hamlets in East coast were
severely affected by December 26 Tsunami. Amidst these conditions, parents are
not at all interested on their children's education. Due to this, children from
fishing community are not getting an opportunity for good education. Manitham has
guaranteed for a very good quality education without any corporal punishment and
all these will be totally free of cost for the poor studying community.

Manitham dedicates to solve this
problem and started 2 centers named as "Manitham Evening Education Centers" [MEEC] at Pamban,
Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. One at Chemmaththoppu Seashore area and another at Kamaraj
Nagar area. There are two batches in each area and more than 300 students, both boys
and girls at present are getting good education. Some of these children are
from the family of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees.
Manitham appointed two dedicated lady teachers for this. One male supervisor has
been appointed to take care of the day to-day affairs and for coordinating students. Manitham
has to looking after all expenses including Teachers salary, supervisor's salary
and other miscellaneous expenses.
As there is good response from the
fishermen community and high quality of education, Manitham is planning to expand this method of education to nearby East
coast seashores of Tamil Nadu also.

Hence,
Manitham appealing to World Tamil Community, to take part or adopt a children programme and
